About Kathi ...
Yoga helped Kathi through a big crises and reorientation she was experiencing in 2015. Since then it became a tool to calm her mind and create a routine she can come back to when feeling overwhelmed. Yoga became her medicine. She kept practicing and exploring all the different areas of it including meditation, pranayama and philosophy.
Kathi is registered with Yoga Alliance and has completed a 200 hrs Ashtanga & Vinyasa Training (actually she has completed 2, one online, one in person).
Since then Kathi has taught over 500 hours and has completed over 70 hours in extra trainings to specialize in different topics and teaching styles (Breath is Life | Pranayama - Bandhas - Meditation course, Breathwork Instructor Course, 30 Hour Online Yin Yoga Teacher Training.
Sharing the medicine of the conscious movements of yoga combined with the power of breath and stillness of meditation is one of her passions she loves to share with you. She teaches from the heart with the intention that it may help you the best possible way on your own journey.

Kathi guides from and with her heart. Her classes leave me with a deep feeling of peace and gratitude. Her teachings go far beyond the Asana praxis. They are a treat for my body, mind and soul.

I’ve taken yoga classes with Kathi several times over the last year and a half. Whether you’re looking for a restorative yin class, or an engaging vinyasa class, I highly recommend her. She meets her clients wherever they are at in their yoga journey, recommending modifications to those who are experienced while keeping it simple for those who are new to their practice. 5 stars!

For me Kathi’s yin classes have been a key element during my 3 month stay in Cabarete, I absolutely loved it!
With my daily hours of kiteboarding, the deep stretches during her yin classes have been instrumental in keeping my body flexible. After every class you just feel completely reborn with a calm mind.
My winter stay in Cabarete has been a life changing experience & i am grateful Kathi was a part of that!

YIN YOGA class Kibayo Cabarete, MONDAYS at 9.00 am.
What are the benefits of Yin Yoga and what does a Yin practice look like?
The practice of yin yoga is based on ancient Chinese philosophies and TCM which believe there are pathways (so called meridians) of Qi (energy) that run through our bodies.
By stretching or compressing certain areas we’re opening up any blockages and releasing that energy to flow freely.
A yin yoga sequence has a very similar effect on our energies as an acupuncture treatment. By holding the various poses, a yin yoga sequence can help restore the healthy flow of Qi in our bodies.
Yin Yoga is a yoga practice in which you hold poses for 3-5 minutes. This deep stretch is relaxing and will target deep connective and fascia tissue, increasing your flexibility.
Yin helps with:
- reducing stress levels
- calms the nervous system
- increasing flexibility and range of motion
- slows the mind
- hydrates skin and detoxifies
- increases mobility of joints
- reduces degeneration of tissue
- hydrates tissues and muscles
- thickens and strengthens ligaments
- lubricates joints
- hydrates skin
- reduces degeneration of tissues
- gives us a more meditative practice
Who is is good for?
Everyone! Many of us live fast-paced, active lives, whether we’re going for a run, or sweating it out on a spin bike or giving it all on the water (either surfing or kiting) Yin yoga is the perfect balance to those intense exercises, providing a slower, more meditative counterpart to help you round out your workouts (all the ones mentioned at the beginning of this paragraph are YANG practices, we need more YIN in our lives to balance out).
The class is 75 minutes, we start with a short grounding meditation and some pranayama (breath work), then we continue with our yin practice and finish off with a nice long shavasana (relaxation).

What is Yin Yoga?
While “yang” yoga (Vinyasa, Hatha, Ashtanga etc.) focuses on your muscles, yin yoga targets your deep connective tissues, like your fascia, ligaments, joints, and bones. It’s slower and more meditative, giving you space to turn inward and tune into both your mind and the physical sensations of your body.
The practice of yin yoga is based on ancient Chinese philosophies and Taoist principles which believe there are pathways (meridians) of Qi (energy) that run through our bodies. By stretching and deepening into poses, we’re opening up any blockages and releasing that energy to flow freely.
A yin yoga sequence has a very similar effect on our energies as an acupuncture treatment. By holding the various poses, a yin yoga sequence can help restore the healthy flow of Qi in our bodies.
What is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra is a form of guided meditation also known as “yogic sleep” or “effortless relaxation”. It’s usually practiced lying down with a teacher guiding the session. The practice draws our attention inwards, and we learn to surf between the states of wakefulness and sleep, where our body finds its natural state of equilibrium (homeostasis) – the breath balances and becomes quiet, unconscious and conscious aspects of the mind reveal themselves, and we fall into an innate state of deep, blissful awareness.
As we rest here, we can turn our attention easily and effortlessly to the very nature of awareness and consciousness. We start to experience the ‘deeper’ features of yogic teachings that previously we perhaps considered intangible, such as feeling our interconnected wholeness and becoming aware of our true, unified nature – expansive, inclusive, and deeply restful.
Yoga Nidra takes us effortlessly into a state of harmonious, restful being. From here, we can be healed, restored and awakened to our deepest, all-knowing, all-welcoming self.
